(Updated) Injection of funds from ALP and Greens welcomed – Government needs to match promise
June 20, 2016
Over the weekend the Australian Labour Party committed an additional $300,000 to both the Launceston Community Legal Centre and the North West Community Legal Centre if elected in the upcoming Federal election. This is additional to the $870,000 election commitment that was made last week to the Women’s Legal Service ($450,000), the Hobart Community Legal Service ($300,000) and the Tenants’ Union of Tasmania ($120,000). The commitment comes around a week after the ALP committed to restoring funding to Environmental Defenders Offices across Australia and the Australian Greens committed to fund the legal assistance sector in accordance with the Productivity Commission’s recommendations.
