Ex-Judge Pierre Slicer urges withdrawal of anti-protest Bill

October 29, 2014

Retired Supreme Court Judge Pierre Slicer today formed part of the CLC Tas delegation urging Legislative Council members to reject the Workplace (Protection from Protesters) Bill 2014.

Amongst a large number of concerns, Pierre Slicer expressed his concern at the likely unintended consequences of the Bill and the harshness of mandatory sentencing.

CLC Tas also addressed the likely breaches of international human rights law as outlined in analysis provided by the Human Rights Law Centre.

A copy of the HRLC analysis was provided to all Legislative Council members and is available here

Along with CLC Tas, other organisations speaking out against the Bill included Civil Liberties Australia, Unions Tasmania and the Law Society of Tasmania.
